7 Bible Readings for Your Mom’s Funeral

Losing a mother is a huge, irreplaceable loss. That’s why scriptural readings constitute a significant aspect of funerals organized by Alpharetta, GA, funeral homes. The scripture brings peace and understanding to the surviving family.

Below are some of our favorite bible readings to share at your mom’s funeral. We hope they help you convey your love for her and help you heal.

1. Proverbs 31:26

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

This is a perfect verse to honor your mother’s love and impact on your life. You can use it as an intro to the eulogy or close it out.

You can read the entire chapter if you are too grief-stricken to come up with your eulogy. It’s about the Godliness of a great mother.

2. 1 Peter 3:4

“Let your true beauty come from your inner personality, not a focus on the external. For lasting beauty comes from a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is precious in God’s sight and is much more important than the outward adornment of elaborate hair, jewelry, and fine clothes.”

The love for one’s mother never comes from what she wears or eats but from who she is and how her personality and character positively affect her children and everyone around her.

3. John 16:22

“Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.”

This verse from John reminds us that, as Christians, death is not final. It gives us hope that we will see each other again on the last day and reunite.

4. Luke 6:21

“Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.”

The second and third beatitudes promise that pain and loss are not permanent. Though a mother is irreplaceable, the love of Christ will fill that void, and you will learn to laugh again.

It is an excellent verse to read if you’re the firstborn with siblings looking up to you for reassurance.

5. Isaiah 66:13

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

As Christians, when we face adversity, it is important to remember we’re not alone.

We especially love this verse because it captures the image of maternal love and reminds us that though she may be gone, the love remains forever.

6. Proverbs 31:31

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

What better way to remind yourself and your siblings to honor your mother’s legacy than this verse from the book of wisdom?

It is also perfect for a funeral – an event designed to honor your mother.

7. Psalm 46:1-10

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

It is natural to wonder how you and the rest of your family will go on without your mother. This chapter is a comforting answer. You will not be abandoned, for the Lord is always with you.

These are only a few of many uplifting Bible verses, and there are several ways to incorporate them into your mom’s funeral.
